Seth Jones
Seth Jones is Florida's PP1 quarterback and a top-four defenseman who plays heavy minutes, and he is coming off a hot start. The day-to-day wire note is the only open question about his availability.
Role
Daily Faceoff's line page, fetched 2 November (last updated 2 November 15:24 UTC), has him on the second pair with Niko Mikkola, behind the Forsling-Ekblad top pair. The same page has him on the first power-play unit with Brady Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk, and on the first penalty-kill unit with Mikkola, Lundell and Luostarinen. Aaron Ekblad is on PP2 and the second PK unit. ESPN's line page, about 9 days old, shows the same pairing and PP1 role. In ESPN's splits he averages roughly 24 to 25 minutes in wins and losses. In Friday's 5-2 win over Winnipeg, Frozen Pool's last-game table (indexed with the 2026-10-30 date) has the Jones-Mikkola pair on the ice for the most even-strength time of any pair, 15:50. His top-pair partner competition for the work is Ekblad, who also gets power-play time on PP2. The wire note says day-to-day, and I found no practice report or coach update on it.
He leads the power-play push. The Hockey News and Yahoo report 18 points through his first 14 games, 11 of them on the power play, tied for the team lead with Matthew Tkachuk. Coach Paul Maurice called him a huge driver of the power play and said he is offensively as strong as there is in the league from the blue line. Florida's power play has gone from 1-for-28 to 15-for-38, and Jones has multiple power-play points in consecutive games. Florida Hockey Now reports that he led the team in minutes per game and quarterbacked the first unit. Our data lists 14 GP, 2 G, 16 A, 18 PTS, 11 PPP, 37 SOG, 15 HIT and 14 BLK.
The pace looks hard to sustain. Two goals on 37 shots is a modest shooting line, and the production comes mainly from assists and the power play, which started cold and then ran hot. The Hockey News puts the unit at 24.2 percent, so the recent surge is the outlier. His output depends on the first unit staying healthy and intact. He is also on the second pair at even strength, behind Forsling-Ekblad. The day-to-day note adds some near-term risk, and the wire note does not say what the issue is. Last season he missed 26 games to injury, per Yahoo's reporting on the Winter Classic injury.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on his current role. The one open question I found is who gets the top power-play assignment when Ekblad is fully involved. A Fox Sports note carries an older preseason caveat on that question, but current lines have Jones on PP1. I found no current analyst dispute beyond that, and none on the health note.
