Josh Morrissey
Morrissey is a long-term injury absence with no return date, and Winnipeg has been playing without him since the injury on Oct. 7, so his rest-of-season value depends on when the wrist heals.
Role
He is not in action. Daily Faceoff's Jets line page (fetched Nov. 1, last updated Nov. 1) does not list him among the defensemen. Its pairings page lists Samberg, Pionk, Ferraro, Salomonsson, Fleury, DeMelo and Bauer, and I could not read the pairs reliably from the fetch. Its first power-play unit has Pionk as the defenseman and Vilardi, Scheifele, Perfetti and Connor as forwards, and Salomonsson is on the second unit. Dobber's last-game table (indexed Oct. 29) is stale and carries no usable date, so I did not use it. When he was healthy, The Hockey Writers reported Samberg stepping into his first-pairing spot next to DeMelo. The Jets have not said whether Morrissey returns to his old pair or to the first power-play unit. The injury report is thin on usage detail.
Arniel said on Oct. 15 that Morrissey is not expected to need surgery, so the injury looks like a healing wait. Yahoo noted he has missed no more than five games in any of the last seven seasons. He also started this season with three assists in four games, and Yahoo described the year as shaping up as a bounce-back after last season's drop to 55 points in 77 games.
The injury has already lasted longer than expected. It was first called day-to-day, then week-to-week on Oct. 15, and then he went on injured reserve on Oct. 19. No return date has been given. He is 31, and the Jets have used several defensemen in his place. Samberg and Pionk are on the top pair in recent lineups, and Pionk is on the first power-play unit. That raises the question of how much of his old minutes and power-play time he gets back.
Where analysts split
The coverage I found does not frame a real analyst debate. It is news reports and lineup pages. The open question is when he returns and whether he gets back the top-pair and power-play minutes after Samberg, Pionk and Salomonsson have filled them. I found no beat-writer or Athletic piece arguing either side.
Injury: IR: assessed real
Wrist injury, on IR
Morrissey is week-to-week with a wrist injury and already missed four games before being placed on IR, with an expected return around Nov. 1. That's a multi-week absence, enough to significantly affect his fantasy value in the near term.
What would change this: Any update on practice participation or official return date confirmation as Nov. 1 approaches.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
