Mikhail Sergachev
Sergachev is Utah's top-pair left-side defenseman and quarterback of the first power-play unit, playing heavy minutes. The day-to-day note is the only thing that clouds that.
Role
Top pair with MacKenzie Weegar in every Inside the Rink preview I read, the latest dated 1 November. Those previews also have him on the first power play unit with Schmaltz, Cooley, Keller and Guenther, and on the first penalty kill with Weegar. Their recent ice-time notes give 26:16 in his latest game, 26:58 in the one before, 24:54 in another, and 21:01 in a fourth. ESPN's line page, seen in search results about a week old, lists Nate Schmidt and Andrew Peeke as the second pair. It also shows John Marino on injured reserve. The previews' PP2 defense has varied between Marino and Weegar. I did not fetch any live line page, so this reflects reporting as of 1 November, not a current read. The day-to-day wire note is not explained in what I found.
He has the full package of minutes, first-unit power play and penalty kill time, and strong shot volume. Inside the Rink, citing Box Score Junkie, has him around 54.6% Corsi-for and 66.7 shot attempts for per 60 over 330 minutes this season. Marino's absence keeps his workload high. Last season's 7 power-play points in 15 games came in a small sample, and he has since held that role.
The day-to-day note adds some risk of missed games or reduced minutes, and its cause is unreported in what I found. The 26-plus minute nights lean on injuries elsewhere on the blue line, and they could shrink once Marino returns. Last season he played only 15 games, so the sample is small. The power play also has four forwards ahead of him in the pecking order, so his points depend on that unit scoring.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on his role. I found no analyst split. The only open question is the day-to-day note, and I found no practice report or club update explaining it.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
