Heiskanen is Dallas's top-pairing, all-situations defenseman, and the coverage I found shows no sign that is changing this season.
Role
Daily Faceoff's line page failed to give current data: the fetch returned a page last updated 9 March 2026 with no usable lineup, so I am not reporting from it. Other sources show a consistent role. A beat-writer lineup tweet relayed by Game Day Lines for the 25 October game against the Islanders had him on the top pair with Thomas Harley. Inside the Rink's 25 October preview had him on the first penalty-kill unit with Harley, Roope Hintz and Arttu Hyry. FSRoundup (undated) says he was promoted to the first pair on 15 October after starting on the second, and lists him on PP1 and PK1 at about 25:39 TOI. FantasySP, about three days old, calls him the top power-play quarterback with Jason Robertson and Hintz and says he is playing over 26 minutes a game. Lian Bichsel and Tyler Myers, and Nils Lundkvist and Kyle Capobianco, are the other pairs. I did not find a named competitor for his power-play or penalty-kill minutes.
He plays a workhorse role: first pair, first power-play unit and first penalty-kill unit, at about 25 to 26 minutes a night. NHL Network noted that last season he was the only NHL player to average over 3:00 a game on both the power play (3:27) and the penalty kill (3:06). He also had a career-best 132 blocked shots and 63 points in 77 games. RotoWire's early-season notes say he should stay heavily involved offensively on the top power-play unit.
RotoWire's note on him says he probably won't be among the most elite offensive defensemen. Last offseason the club's own profile floated cutting his minutes to keep him fresh for the playoffs, and Harley, who is on PP2 and the first penalty-kill unit, is the obvious beneficiary. His pairing was reshuffled this month, from a Lindell pairing in an earlier lineup tweet to Harley by 25 October, so partners may still change. Heavy minutes in every situation also add some wear risk over an 84-game season.
