Moritz Seider

Consensus #118 · D14 · tier 8Week 5: 4 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Seider is Detroit's top right-side defenseman, and the sources I found show him on the first pair, first power-play unit and first penalty kill, so he should hold a large all-situations role.

Role

Inside the Rink's projected lines for the 2 November game at Florida have Seider on the first pair with Ben Chiarot. They list him on power-play unit 1 with Arvidsson, Finnie, Raymond and DeBrincat, and on penalty-kill unit 1 with Compher, Finnie and Chiarot. Justin Faulk is on power-play unit 2 and the second penalty kill. ESPN's line page, which was about 14 days old when indexed, shows the same pair and special-teams assignments. Dobber's Frozen Pool card showed 25:41 of average ice time and 4:06 of power-play time through 11 games, with 5 points, 20 shots, 21 hits and 34 blocks. I did not fetch Daily Faceoff, so these are projections and search-result snippets, not a live read of a line page. Forward names on the first unit differ by source. Dylan Larkin, Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton are on injured reserve per ESPN's older page, and Simon Edvinsson is also listed there.

The case for

He plays heavy minutes on the first pair, the first power-play unit and the first penalty kill, which feeds points, shots, hits and blocks. CBS Sports describes him as an elite blueliner where hits and blocks count. His 11-game line from Dobber (5 assists, 20 shots, 21 hits, 34 blocks) shows the volume is there even though he has no goals.

The case against

The goal drought is the concern: 0 goals through 11 games on Dobber's card, with all 5 points coming as assists. Rotowire called his start acceptable, not strong. Detroit has several forwards on injured reserve, which can affect how much the first power-play unit produces. My sources do not say how long those injuries will last.
