Victor Hedman
Hedman is a third-pair defenseman with a reduced role this season, and he is currently day-to-day with a lower-body injury, so he is best seen as a depth blueliner whose availability matters more than his upside.
Role
Daily Faceoff's Lightning line page (fetched Nov 2, last updated Oct 31, source Gabby Shirley) shows him on the third pair with Maxwell Crozier, behind Moser-McDonagh and Carlson-D'Astous. He is not on either power-play unit there. The first unit is Guentzel, Point, Kucherov, Hagel and D'Astous, and the second has Carlson as its defenseman. He is listed on the second penalty-kill unit. That page does not say whether he has returned from the injury. As of Oct 25, rotoballer said he was averaging a career-low 14:26 and had not topped 17:45. Charle-Edouard D'Astous was expected to get more work when he sat out against Utah, and Crozier was also scratched that night. I found no report of a return date or practice status after Oct 25.
He looked sharp early. Coach Jon Cooper said at camp that he was "fleet of feet" and had command of his game. He had two goals and four points in his first 10 games after a season in which he missed time for injury and personal reasons. The injury was labeled day-to-day and was not described as long-term, and he still plays penalty-kill minutes. A fan on the Lightning's injury post said he was starting to come around into form.
He is 35 and has been hurt repeatedly. He played only 33 games last season, and he left the Colorado game after one shift and 5:56 of ice time. His ice time is a career low and he has no power-play role in the Daily Faceoff setup. A third-pair job with no power-play time caps his scoring chances, and any lower-body problem could linger given his recent history.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on the role: third pair, no first-unit power play. What I could not resolve is how soon he returns and whether his minutes rise once healthy. The only sources I found are Oct 25 injury reports and the Oct 31 line page, and none gives a timeline.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
