Allen Graves
Graves is a 20-year-old rookie who has made Toronto's opening-night rotation. He is a fringe ninth or tenth man whose playing time depends on matchups, not a settled role.
Role
The TSN story of Oct. 22 says he learned at shootaround that he had made the opening-night rotation. He competed with Jamison Battle and Kyle Anderson for the ninth and 10th spots. TSN says the rotation outside Toronto's established top eight "could be fluid night to night." Basketball-Reference shows 2 games, 0 starts and 13.0 minutes per game (3.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks). That page was indexed about 14 days ago, so its totals may be stale, and I did not fetch it. I found no reporting on his usage rate, and I did not find a source that says who starts at his position. The wire report says he practiced Monday with a groin issue and has no designation. I found no coach's update after that. His last-season line (3 GP, 138 MIN) does not describe his NBA role.
Toronto's front office sees an all-around player who defends. A front office executive told Spotrac that there will be nights when they lean on Graves and Collin Murray-Boyles a lot. SI says he could fill the role Sandro Mamukelashvili held before leaving for the Lakers. TSN notes that coach Darko Rajakovic is not afraid to play rookies. Graves also impressed at Summer League.
The rotation spot is not secure. TSN describes the ninth and 10th roles as night-to-night calls, and Battle and Anderson are direct competitors. SI notes that he is one of the youngest players in the draft and started only four games in his one college season. The same piece says he is meant to give depth behind RJ Barrett, Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes, which implies limited minutes. His early NBA minutes are small, and the groin issue adds some risk.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether Graves keeps a regular rotation spot or sits on nights when Rajakovic prefers Battle's shooting or Anderson's veteran play. The sources I found do not directly contradict each other. SI frames him as a possible Mamukelashvili-type contributor, while TSN's reporting describes a fluid fringe role.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
