Justin Champagnie
Champagnie is a rebounding, high-energy bench forward on a deeper Wizards roster. He has produced early, and his minutes depend partly on how the frontcourt looks when it is healthy.
Role
He is coming off the bench. Reported minutes: nearly 21 in the Oct 21 opener (8 points, 8 rebounds) and 26 in the Oct 25 win over the Bulls (11 points, 14 rebounds). CBS/RotoWire (Oct 25) says the extra court time is partly because first overall pick AJ Dybantsa is recovering from an ankle issue. It also says Champagnie should be a key second-unit piece even with the frontcourt at full strength. No usage rate or starting-five report was found. Yahoo notes he started 19 games last season and had several coach's-decision DNPs. I did not read a rotation tracker, so the full competition for his minutes is unconfirmed.
Coach Brian Keefe (Yahoo/SB Nation, Oct 21) says he produces whenever called on and can play with any lineup. Keefe credits his rebounding, cutting, defense, shooting and toughness. He has two productive games to open the year, including a 14-rebound double-double on Oct 25. CBS expects him to stay in the second unit even after the frontcourt is healthy.
His role has been inconsistent. Yahoo notes sporadic minutes and DNPs last season, and he sat until the fourth quarter in a preseason game against Detroit. The roster is now more crowded, and Roundtable Sports framed his 2026-27 question as finding a consistent role. The Oct 25 minutes were boosted by Dybantsa's ankle, so they may shrink when he returns.
Where analysts split
Whether he keeps rotation minutes of roughly 20 to 26 once Dybantsa is healthy and the frontcourt is full. CBS/RotoWire says he stays a key second-unit piece. Other coverage frames his role as still unsettled after last season's DNPs.
Injury: Out: assessed avoid
Fractured foot, surgery, out until around All-Star break
He underwent surgery for a fractured foot and is expected to miss several months, with a hoped-for return around the February All-Star break, so he is unrosterable in fantasy for the foreseeable future.
What would change this: Any update on recovery progress as the All-Star break approaches, or setbacks that push the return further.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
