Luka Dončić
Luka Dončić is the undisputed offensive hub of a post-LeBron Lakers team and has started 3-0, including a 52-point game at Utah on October 25 per Wikipedia's game log.
Role
He starts at point guard next to Austin Reaves, who is described as firmly the second option (CBS Sports/Rotowire, Oct 24). Dončić played 37 minutes against the Clippers on October 23 (Rotowire via CBS). Preview projections range from about 34 minutes (Lake Show Life, a projection of a lower load that Redick wanted) to 35+ (Success Knocks, a low-quality source). Walker Kessler is the other starter all sources agree on. The other two starting spots are disputed: Yahoo and Fadeaway World project Grimes and LaRavia, while Success Knocks lists Ziaire Williams and Thybulle as the opening-night five. I did not confirm the actual starting fives from a box score or beat writer. Collin Sexton is projected as the top guard off the bench, and he sat out the opener with a calf issue as a precaution. I found no reporting on back-to-back rest plans for the regular season. The wire note on a preseason rest day is stale now that the regular season has begun.
The Lakers are now fully his team, and Yahoo's preview says he could win MVP. The roster is younger and has more shooters and athletes around him, plus Kessler as a rim protector. NBA.com notes the Lakers outscored opponents by 10.1 points per 100 possessions in 532 minutes with Dončić and Reaves on the floor without LeBron last season. The 52-point, 10-assist game at Utah shows the ceiling.
Ball security and workload are the concerns. He committed a career-high 11 turnovers against the Clippers (Rotowire, Oct 24), and the Lakers needed Reaves to close that game. Perimeter defense around Dončić and Reaves is a stated weakness (Yahoo/Fadeaway preview). Redick has said he wants to cut his stars' minutes, so a lower minutes ceiling is possible. Reaves is a real second creator who can take shots and playmaking touches away from Dončić.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is mainly about minutes and about who starts around him. Some projections cut Dončić to about 34 minutes as Redick lowers workloads, while others expect 35 or more. The starting spots beside Dončić, Reaves and Kessler are unsettled across sources, but that mostly affects his teammates.
