Ty Jerome
Jerome is Memphis's starting point guard and early-season scoring leader, and a back issue that cost him one game now looks resolved.
Role
He started all five of Memphis's games before the back issue (Yahoo, Oct. 31). Minutes have been about 32 in the two games where a figure was reported (Rotowire game notes), and 24 in the Portland game he played through back tightness (NBC Sports/Rotoworld). When he sat out the Oct. 31 Kings game, Cam Spencer was expected to start at point guard and Javon Small was a possible backup (Yahoo). NBC Sports says he was not on the injury report for Monday's game against New Orleans. I did not find a published rotation tracker or minutes projection, and I have not confirmed whether he plays back-to-backs.
He opened the season with 45 points in 32 minutes, then 31 points in 32 minutes (Rotowire). Yahoo has him at 25.8 points and 5.6 assists through five games and named him Western Conference Player of the Week for Oct. 21-25. He has a clear starting job, and Memphis won the games he played in the first stretch.
The scoring pace looks unsustainable: he shot 3-of-12 against Portland and 4-of-15 against Utah, and NBC Sports said he "fell back to earth" in the Utah game. His 2025-26 was limited to 15 games by a calf injury and then an ankle injury (Rotowire). Back soreness is a new concern, and he sat out the Kings game after the issue first showed up late against Portland. Guard teammate Scotty Pippen Jr. was also listed with back soreness for that game.
Where analysts split
Reporting I found does not show a real analyst split. The open question is whether the early scoring and starter's minutes hold up, and whether the back problem recurs given his injury history. Nothing I found argues either side directly.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
