Obi Toppin
Toppin looks like a bench forward who plays the 4 and some small-ball 5, with a reported role of roughly 20 to 25 minutes, and no source I found has him starting.
Role
Early ESPN game log entries show 25 minutes in both the 10/21 game at New Orleans (20 points) and the 10/23 game against Dallas (13 points), both off the bench. ESPN's fantasy note says Indiana used him as a small-ball center while Jay Huff did not leave the bench. An SI Pacers preview projects him at 21 minutes as the backup power forward and a 6th or 7th man, behind starter Pascal Siakam and ahead of Jarace Walker. It expects Kelly Oubre and Toppin to be the first subs. Fox Sports' note says Aaron Nesmith's eventual return from a hamstring injury could complicate his role, though it still sees him keeping at least 20 minutes. That note's date is unclear. I did not read a live depth chart or minutes tracker page, and I found nothing on back-to-back rest plans.
His athleticism, transition finishing and corner threes fit Indiana's pace, and the staff values him. He has already played 25 minutes in both games found, with one 20-point night. Fox Sports says his ability to play above the rim should keep him at 20 or more minutes even when the roster is healthy. SI also sees him as a good fit at both the 4 and the 5.
RotoWire's profile says he is blocked by Siakam and threatened by Oubre's arrival and Walker's development. It calls the path to a bigger role murky and expects him to remain a reserve. Fox Sports says Nesmith's return will complicate things. CBS said earlier that his production in a bench role could vary from game to game. Last season's data we hold shows only 3 games played, so there is little recent track record.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is about size of role, not whether he has one. One side sees a stable 20 to 25 minutes as the small-ball center and backup four. The other expects those minutes to shrink as Nesmith returns and Oubre and Walker take wing and forward time. Whether Huff or Toppin gets the backup-center minutes is also unsettled.

Lumbar strain, dressing but emergency-only
Toppin has missed two straight games with a lumbar strain and will only play Monday against Atlanta in an emergency due to the Pacers being down to eight active players; he should not be expected to produce meaningful fantasy minutes.
What would change this: Whether he returns to his normal rotation role or practice status upgrades beyond emergency availability.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
