Rui Hachimura

Consensus #291 · PF119 · tier 6Week 3: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Hachimura is the Clippers' starting power forward after signing in July 2026. He has started slowly in a bigger offensive role, and his shooting has been poor so far.

Role

ESPN's player page (checked 2 November) lists him as the starter and says his usage should keep him relevant. Through four appearances he averages 12.3 field-goal attempts. His last three logged games were 33 minutes at the Lakers on 10/23, 29 at Oklahoma City on 10/25 and 26 at Minnesota on 10/30. He shot 4-11 in that Minnesota game, a 127-101 loss in which he scored 12. RotoWire (undated snippet) says the Clippers later added Max Strus from Cleveland, who competes for wing and forward minutes, though it says Hachimura should stay in the rotation. I did not read a current depth chart or minutes tracker. His quadriceps issue was probable for the Minnesota game, and he played. I found no later update on it, and no report on back-to-back rest.

The case for

He was an elite shooter last season with the Lakers, at 44.3% from three and 51.4% overall, per NBA.com. Club president Lawrence Frank called him an elite three-point shooter and an efficient mid-range scorer. He is a starter on a young roster, with a clear spacing and switch-defense fit. His 12.3 shot attempts per game show the volume is there, so the slow start could be a shooting dip that corrects.

The case against

ESPN's analysis says he has struggled to adjust to a more prominent offensive role. He has scored more than 15 points only once in four appearances, and he shot 2 of 11 against Oklahoma City. 213hoops (October 15) calls him a solid rotation player, not a breakout candidate, and expects a deadline trade to a contender. The Strus addition adds competition for minutes. RotoWire noted he finished 228th in standard leagues last season, after two top-150 seasons.

Where analysts split

The disagreement is whether the slow start is only shooting variance for a starter with real volume, or a mismatch with a bigger shot-creating role that leaves him as a solid role player. A secondary question is whether he stays a Clipper past the trade deadline, which 213hoops expects will be a trade.
