Tidjane Salaün

Consensus #255 · PF68 · tier 7Week 3: 3 gamesUpdated Oct 26

Salaün is a fringe rotation forward for Charlotte, and so far this season he is in and out of the lineup on coach's decisions.

Role

No starting role appears in anything I found. A Fox Sports/RotoWire blurb (undated in the search result) says he sat out the opener on a coach's decision, then played 23 minutes off the bench in a 128-81 loss to the Hawks. An SI/Yahoo preseason projection (about 20 October) gave him roughly 8 minutes a night, behind Kalkbrenner at 11 and level with McNeeley at 8. That piece lists O'Neale, Kalkbrenner, Salaün and Anderson Jr. as extra reserves beyond the main rotation. RotoWire names Brandon Miller, Grant Williams and Miles Bridges as his competition for forward minutes. Fox says he is competing for wing minutes and could gain if Kon Knueppel (hamstring) is limited. In preseason he played 19 to 23 minutes off the bench. I did not fetch a rotation tracker or depth chart, so I cannot say where he sits in the current rotation. I found no usage-rate figure.

The case for

Preseason gave him real minutes with the starters out. He scored 16 with four threes against Boston, nine on 4-6 shooting against Memphis, and played 23 minutes in the Hawks game. Fox says he should see more production if Knueppel misses time. With Williams and White also hurt coming into the season, the depth chart was thin, and he is a 6'10" forward in his third year with a big-wing skill set.

The case against

The coach benched him for the opener, and the SI/Yahoo preseason projection had him near 8 minutes in a deep rotation. He lost his rotation spot last season when Williams returned from injury, and he was sent to the G League. Fox calls his uncertain place in the rotation a significant concern and limits his relevance to deeper leagues at best. In one preseason game against Brooklyn he played a team-high 28 minutes and the team was outscored by 24 points in them. Preseason shooting was also inconsistent (1-8 in one game). Healthy returns by Williams, Knueppel and White would likely squeeze his minutes.

Where analysts split

Whether he holds a steady bench role once Charlotte's injured players return, or only gets minutes while they are out. Fox ties his upside to Knueppel's hamstring. The SI projection treats him as a marginal reserve even in a thin lineup.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
