Trevon Brazile

Consensus #170 · PF69 · tier 6Week 3: 3 gamesUpdated Oct 26

Brazile is a rookie second-round pick (35th overall) who has played his way into Denver's early-season rotation, and his role beyond the current injuries is not yet settled.

Role

Through two regular-season games he averaged 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds (Yahoo player page). In the home opener on Oct. 24 against New Orleans he played 28 minutes, with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal, shooting 3 of 7 from three (Yahoo/Heavy, Nugg Love). In the Oct. 22 opener at Oklahoma City he had 12 rebounds, a team high, as the backup to Aaron Gordon. Nugg Love says he is filling in for injured wings Cameron Johnson (out, no timetable given) and Spencer Jones (out to start the year). Julian Strawther is reported out until sometime in December. I did not find a published starting five, a minutes tracker or a usage rate, and none of these sources says whether he starts. My search did not turn up anything on back-to-back rest.

The case for

Nugg Love writers argue his rim protection, 41.5-inch vertical, 7-foot-4 wingspan and willingness to shoot threes make him a nightly rotation player even after the injured wings return. Nikola Jokic reportedly called him an 'X-Factor' after the comeback win over New Orleans, and Brazile closed that game with trust from coach David Adelman. The same writers say he should be the seventh man off the bench.

The case against

Most of his minutes so far come from injuries to Johnson, Jones and Strawther, and Nugg Love itself describes him as an injury stand-in. Two games is a tiny sample, and 3 of 7 from three on one night is not a proven shooting profile. If Johnson and Jones return, the rotation could tighten and his minutes could shrink. The wire note that he sat out the Summer League finale for undisclosed reasons is old and did not carry into the regular season.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement among the coverage I found, but it comes mostly from one fan-oriented outlet (Nugg Love, syndicated on Yahoo) and I found no skeptical analysis. The open question is whether he keeps a fixed rotation spot once Johnson and Jones are healthy. Nobody has reported an answer.
