Bowers is the Raiders' top pass catcher after missing Weeks 1 and 2 following a meniscus trim, and the coverage I found treats him as a weekly focal point.

Usage is receiver-like under new head coach Klint Kubiak. Through his first two games back, Yahoo (about 11 days old) had him at 16 snaps inline, 61 out wide and 45 in the slot. A later Yahoo piece, about 4 days old, cites PFF at 40.8 percent of snaps out wide, the highest rate among tight ends. His targets: 25 across Weeks 3 and 4, including 11 against the Chiefs, and 35 in three games per Yahoo. The latest wire note has him at 4 catches on 9 targets for 70 yards against the Bills. Michael Mayer is the other tight end and sits second at the position on the Rotowire depth chart snippet. That snippet is undated, so I did not read the live page. Mayer had one fewer target than Bowers in Week 4. I did not find a current snap share for Bowers or a target share for the full season.
Optimists point to target volume and alignment. He leads the team in targets, catches and yards, and is lined up as the No. 1 receiver rather than as an inline tight end. He had 8 third-down conversions in his first two games, tied for most among tight ends. Teammate Kevin Byard called him the number one receiver. Rotowire calls him the weekly TE1 regardless of matchup. The Week 4 and Week 5 coverage shows no lingering knee limitation, as he went from limited to full practice before the New England game.
The team around him is weak and keeps losing, including the 33-30 loss to the Bills, which can mean erratic quarterback play and play-calling. In an earlier stretch, CBS noted that targets sometimes went to deep shots for Tre Tucker instead of him. Defenses are also now treating him like a wide receiver, as the Patriots did. His Week 5 line of 4 catches on 9 targets for 70 yards was efficient but not dominant. His knee has been a concern, as he was limited in practice in Week 5 before upgrading. I found no reporting of a current limitation.
