Tucker Kraft
A genuine top-of-position tight end coming off a Week 9 (2025) ACL tear who is off PUP, practicing in full team drills and expected to be a full-go for Week 1 — the open question is how quickly Green Bay lets him back to a full workload, not whether he plays.
Role
Green Bay's clear TE1 and, when healthy last year, its leading pass catcher: 44 targets in eight games, 32-489-6, an 18.8% target share and a target on 23% of his routes (eighth among TEs). He's used heavily inline (58.8% of snaps at the end of the line last season), so he blocks and runs shorter routes than slot-heavy TEs, yet still produced. Competition for work: Jonnu Smith on a one-year deal is the notable addition and can play detached, while Luke Musgrave has been dealing with a neck issue and Josh Whyle, Mark Redman, Thomas Yassmin and McCallan Castles are depth. Target competition otherwise comes from the wide receiver room, which is healthier than it was for most of last season — that's a bigger factor for his share than the TE room is.
He was on a 1,000-yard pace before the tear, the recovery has run ahead of schedule (activated off PUP under nine months post-surgery, full 11-on-11 by mid-August, reportedly explosive in camp), and he himself says he's "not doing the rep count stuff anymore." Jordan Love has an established rapport with him, he's in a contract year, and his target share has room to grow rather than shrink. Analysts who like him note that Jonnu Smith's signing looks more like insurance for a thin, banged-up TE room than a threat to Kraft's snaps.
Ten months is on the fast end for an ACL, and Kraft's game is built on athleticism and yards after the catch — the traits that typically return last. Green Bay publicly signalled it would manage him, and the club has a history of easing players back over several weeks (the Christian Watson comparison gets cited a lot). Add Jonnu Smith taking some of the passing-down and detached snaps and a healthier receiver group, and the early-season version of Kraft could be a limited-snap, lower-volume player for a month.
Where analysts split
Whether the Packers actually put him on a snap count in September. Kraft says the rep-count phase is over and ESPN's reporting has him "full go" for Week 1; coaching-staff comments earlier in camp pointed to a careful ramp. The second, smaller split is how much of the passing-down/detached TE work Jonnu Smith siphons off.
