George Kittle
Kittle is a full-time, high-snap tight end and the 49ers' top or second pass-catching option, now coming off a game with eight catches on 10 targets for 88 yards and a fumble in the loss to Atlanta.
Role
Snap share: he played 46% in Week 1, his first game back from the Achilles tear. Rotoballer (Oct 15) says he has played at least 85% of snaps in each of his last three games and at least 90% in each of his last two. Targets: Draft Sharks (about a week ago) had his season target share at 21.7%, behind only Mike Evans. It also had him averaging 15.0 PPR points per game as the TE5. The wire note puts him at 10 targets against Atlanta, and he had eight in Week 6. Competition: Luke Farrell is listed behind him at TE on RotoWire's snap page, which I did not verify as current. The WR room is thin. Draft Sharks cites Evans leaving the Week 6 game with an Achilles issue that may sideline him for an extended time, and says Deebo Samuel, De'Zhaun Stribling and Ricky Pearsall have missed extended time. I did not find a confirmed update on Evans' status.
Optimists point to the WR injuries. With Evans possibly out for an extended stretch, Kittle is the clear primary target for Brock Purdy, and Draft Sharks says his volume could climb. He is on the field for nearly every snap and he scores near the goal line: RotoBaller counted four touchdowns in four games as of Oct 15, and FantasyData calls him a buy-low player after the Achilles injury. The 10-target game against Atlanta fits that picture.
Skeptics point to his age (33) and his injury history. He tore his Achilles last season, and PrizePicks notes he missed six regular-season games in 2025 with hamstring and ankle injuries. RotoBaller points out he has not caught more than six passes in a game this season, so his production has leaned on touchdowns. That scoring is hard to sustain. If Evans is out, defenses can focus more on Kittle. The fumble against Atlanta is a one-game blemish, and I found no report of it affecting his role.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement that his role is secure. The only open question I found is how much extra volume he gets if Evans misses time, versus how long touchdown-heavy scoring can last. I found no analyst arguing he will lose playing time.
