Caleb Douglas is a rookie third-round X receiver who came back from a four-game ankle absence and went straight into a major role on a weak Miami offense. His week of production came on very few targets.
Role
Per DraftKings and Blitz (both Oct. 25), he played 44 of 65 offensive snaps (about 68%) in Week 7. That was second among Miami receivers behind Malik Washington (52 snaps), and Chris Bell played 31. He had 3 targets, about 14% of Miami's passing opportunities. Before the injury he was listed as the X receiver, with Jalen Tolbert at Z and Washington in the slot (Rotowire, Sept. 4). In his two earlier games, SI reports a 91% snap rate and 18% target share, and Rotowire/CBS report 5 catches for 94 yards on 7 targets in Week 1. I did not read a current depth chart, so his current listing is unconfirmed. Malik Willis is the quarterback.
He has a real connection with Willis and is a downfield threat (4for4 had him as a primary deep option in Week 1). He scored on a red zone target and a 63-yard catch-and-run in Week 7. Combined with the Week 1 production, that is two big games in three appearances. NBC Sports says his role is only going in one direction. ESPN notes Miami may have to throw more if it trails New England in Week 8. He also has few target competitors on a thin receiver group.
Miami's offense ranked 31st in scoring and passing yards at last check (Rotowire/NBC), and the team is run-heavy when it can be. Two touchdowns on three targets is hard to repeat, and the 14% target share is low for a player on the field about 68% of snaps. Blitz flagged that gap as a concern. ESPN notes his 2025 college efficiency was underwhelming, with six drops and 1.81 yards per route run. DraftKings says he is still ramping up after the injury. The ankle has no current designation.
Where analysts split
The question is whether his Week 7 snap share turns into steady targets, or whether the two long touchdowns hide a low-volume role in a bad offense. NBC Sports expects his role to grow. Blitz and Rotowire's earlier note urge caution because of the 14% target share and Miami's offense.
