Tate is the Titans' lead receiver and an every-week starter as a rookie, so his weekly results will depend mostly on Cam Ward and the offense around him.
Role
Tate is Cam Ward's top downfield option. Yahoo (about Oct 24) lists an 81% snap rate, a 27% target share and 1.95 yards per route run. FantasyPros (about Oct 12) has a 24.9% target share, 2.15 yards per route run and a 33% first-read share. NBC Sports said before Week 7 that he had a 25% target share and a 46% air-yards share. In Week 7 he led Tennessee in catches and receiving yards and tied Elic Ayomanor for the target lead (ESPN). Wan'Dale Robinson tied him for the target lead in Week 6 (Draft Sharks). Over the last five games he has 27 catches for 348 yards and 1 TD on 40 targets (ESPN). I did not find a depth chart read, so I am not stating one.
The volume is real and steady. He has a quarter or more of the targets, the largest air-yards share on the team, and at least five catches in four of his last five games. He had a 42.8% target share in his Week 4 breakout (SI), and NBC Sports calls him an every-week starter. His college efficiency was elite, and top-10 receivers typically take about a quarter of their team's targets (ESPN).
The offense caps what he can do. His results swing with Ward's output (FantasyPros). In the Week 5 loss to Houston the offense scored three points and Tate had 1 catch for 6 yards. In the Week 6 win over the Colts Ward threw for only 107 yards. NBC Sports called the Week 7 game solid but unspectacular, and ESPN ranks him 34th among fantasy wide receivers (position rank, no scoring format given). He is also still sharing targets with Ayomanor and Robinson.
Where analysts split
Analysts agree on his volume. The open question is whether Ward and the offense can turn it into consistent production. FantasyPros puts his ceiling and floor on Ward's play. Yahoo's Week 7 projection was more bullish (WR25), while FantasyPros had him at WR42 in points per game.
