DK Metcalf
Metcalf is Pittsburgh's top downfield receiver, but his weekly volume swings widely. Two catches against the Saints was a season low, and the offense leaned on its backfield that day.

He is the left-side starter on Fantasy Data's Steelers depth chart (undated, indexed within the last few days), with rookie Germie Bernard on the right and Brandon Smith listed behind him. ESPN's Spin (1 day old) calls him Aaron Rodgers' top downfield option. He has a 32-374-1 line on 58 targets through seven games. FantasyPros (written before the Saints game) gave him a 22.1% target share and a 31.5% first-read share, and had him third among wide receivers in deep targets with 12. In Week 6 he saw 15 targets (35% share on 53 routes) with Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve and Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek out. Rodgers also funnels targets to Bernard, to tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, and to RB Jaylen Warren. I did not find a snap-share figure.
He leads the team in deep targets and wins on the boundary, and the passing volume is high enough that he can score well even when Rodgers does not use him ideally. NBC Sports said that after his Week 6 game. FantasyPros's note that he has been much better against single-high coverage pointed to the Saints matchup. Pittman and Wilson are on IR, so the target competition is thinner. The wire note says his 56 yards led the team in the Saints game.
His volume is erratic. He had 4 targets in Week 5, 15 in Week 6 and 6 in Week 7, and the Week 6 spike came in desperation mode late in a comeback. NBC noted that in Week 5 two of his three catches were screens and he was targeted deeper than 10 yards once. CBS pegged Bernard's short-area target volume as the steadier one. Pittsburgh's 16-10 win ran mostly through the backfield, which caps the passing volume. ESPN's preseason projection already expected a slight dip from added competition.
Where analysts split
The question is whether Rodgers keeps feeding Metcalf downfield and heavily, or whether the offense settles into Bernard's short-area volume and a run-heavy game plan. Week 6 supported the first view and Week 7 supported the second. Weekly rankings are close, though: FantasyPros had him around WR20 for Week 7, and CBS had him as a low-end WR2 start.
