Germie Bernard
Bernard, a 22-year-old rookie, is Pittsburgh's every-down slot receiver opposite DK Metcalf while Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson are out. His role is secure for now, and the open question is what happens when they return.

RotoWire (via CBS Sports, after the Saints game) has him with a team-high 33 routes on Aaron Rodgers' 34 dropbacks. PrizePicks (Oct 25) has him over 90% of snaps across the two games before New Orleans, with 21 targets and target shares of 30% and 27%. He lined up in the slot on 56% and 62% of his snaps in those games. Rotowire says Pittman (foot) and Wilson (finger) remain out for at least two more games each. He is ahead of Ben Skowronek, who was ruled out with a calf injury in Week 6. Metcalf is the other every-down receiver. Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Jaylen Warren also take targets. He saw only 3 snaps in Week 1 and 29 of 72 snaps (40.3%) in Week 4, so the heavy role is recent.
Steelers Depot says the ball keeps finding him whenever he plays real snaps. It says he is clearly right behind Metcalf in talent. Yahoo says he has earned Rodgers' trust. Over a two-game span he had 17 catches on 20 targets for 167 yards, with 107 of those yards after the catch. He also had 3.7 yards of separation per target, the team high. His first career touchdown was an overtime winner. Yahoo argues he is making a case to be the long-term No. 2 receiver, and that Pittman and Wilson can add flexibility without displacing him.
His average depth of target is 5.1 yards, which PFF ranks 68th of 69 receivers with at least 20 targets (via PrizePicks). That could cap his yardage. His role came from injuries, and he dropped to 3 catches for 27 yards against the Saints. He has a drop that was intercepted, and in Week 4 CBS described his role as limited behind Metcalf, Pittman, Freiermuth, Washington and Warren. Once Pittman and Wilson are healthy, his snaps and targets could fall back toward that earlier range.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is what happens to his role when Pittman and Wilson return. Steelers Depot and Yahoo think he has locked in the No. 2 job. Yahoo's own caveat is that this is the biggest question. Rotowire and Yahoo's Week 7 blurb call him a fantasy WR3 or No. 3 receiver. A second question is whether his short-area, after-the-catch profile limits his ceiling. No source I found gives a return date for either injured receiver beyond Rotowire's at least two more games.
