Houston's defense started the season below its preseason billing but had a strong Week 5 against Tennessee, and the Week 6 rankings I found place it in the middle tier, with the Week 7 matchup against the Giants ranked far higher.

The pass rush is the engine: Week 5 reporting credits Will Anderson Jr. with 3 sacks and Danielle Hunter with 1 sack and 2 QB hits against Tennessee. Rotoballer reports that DeMeco Ryans took over defensive play-calling and that the first game under that change allowed three points, with four sacks and two turnovers. I did not find a source confirming who called plays before that, so I won't characterize the change beyond what Rotoballer said.
The pass rush is producing. Rotoballer says Houston has had at least four sacks in three of its last four games. Week 5 against Tennessee (the league's worst offense by yardage, per ClutchPoints) produced 16 fantasy points on Rotoballer's scoring. Ryans's play-calling takeover looked effective in its first game. Jacksonville has allowed six sacks over the past two weeks, and its left tackle was lost, according to Sportsnaut. RotoWire's Week 7 look-ahead has Houston first among defenses against the Giants.

The split is over how much weight the Week 5 blowout of Tennessee deserves. Rotoballer ranks Houston ninth for Week 6 and expects the pass rush to carry it at Jacksonville. Sportsnaut (13th) and RotoWire (15th) rank it lower, and Sportsnaut says the pass rush has to repeat that dominance against the Jaguars' line. The disagreement is mostly about the Week 6 road matchup, not the unit's talent. Sources broadly agree the Week 7 home matchup against the Giants is favorable.
