Williams started the season quiet and is now a lineup-relevant WR2 option in Detroit's offense, with the recent touchdown run being the main thing to weigh.
Role
He is a full-time starter. A Lions game-grade tracker (A to Z Sports) had him at 57 snaps against Green Bay on Oct. 25. FantasyPros' expert note (checked Oct. 27) lists a 14.7% target share, 1.50 yards per route run, a 31.8% air-yard share and a 22.7% first-read share. It also lists three red zone targets and nine deep targets. Amon-Ra St. Brown is still the lead target. Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs also share the passing work, though I did not find current target splits for them. Detroit plays at Minnesota in Week 8, and CBS/Rotowire calls the Vikings unbeaten.
He has a 13-240-4 line on 19 targets over the last three games, and he led Detroit in receiving yards in the Week 5 loss to Carolina. His air-yard share is 31.8% and his first-read share is 22.7%, so the ball is coming to him on purpose. He has also scored in back-to-back games. He was a top-20 weekly WR in each of his last two games (WR19, WR15, per FantasyPros). The bye did not cool him off.
The season-long picture is thinner than the last three games. FantasyPros has him as the WR32 in points per game with a 14.7% target share and only three red zone targets. Four TDs in three games on a modest target base is hard to repeat. He scored 8.9 PPR points or less in each of the first three games, per CBS/Rotowire. FantasyPros notes his per-route production drops against two-high defenses. Detroit's passing work is also spread among St. Brown, LaPorta and Gibbs.
Where analysts split
The question is whether the recent surge is a lasting role or touchdown-driven variance. His weekly ranking (ECR WR24, 9.8 projected points per FantasyPros) sits well below the numbers from the last three games. I found no analyst arguing otherwise in detail, so this split is inferred from the numbers rather than a quoted debate.
