Fairbairn is the Texans' secure, every-week kicker, and nothing in current coverage suggests his job or leg is in question for the rest of the season.
Role
He handles all field goals, PATs and kickoffs for Houston. Through Week 6 he was 13 of 14 on field goals (4 of 5 from 50-plus) and 15 of 15 on PATs (PFF page updated 10/25 and the Texans' site). The wire note adds 2-for-2 on field goals and 1-for-1 on PATs in Sunday's 27-21 overtime loss to the Giants. No one is reported competing for the job. He signed a two-year, $13 million extension in March 2026 (Aaron Wilson via SI). PFF's page lists his kickoff grade at 18.3, 24th of 33 kickers, so kickoffs are a weaker part of his work. Rotowire lists Houston's bye as Week 8.
He is accurate and has range. PFF's field-goal grade of 87.6 ranked 4th of 32 kickers as of 10/25. He has made 50-plus kicks this year, including a 53-yarder against Tennessee in Week 5 per the Texans' site. He also hit the 49-yard game-winner as time expired in London against Jacksonville on Oct. 18. Houston's games have been close and mostly lost, which keeps him in scoring range. Rotowire's note after Week 4 credited the offense with getting into field-goal range.
His value depends on Houston's offense stalling in field-goal range rather than scoring touchdowns. The Chronicle's overtime recap on Sunday's loss described offensive failures that kept Houston from reaching his range. Rotowire noted that his 50-plus volume last year was unusually high and that regression there is likely, which would cut his opportunities. He also has a bye in Week 8 (Rotowire), so he misses a week.
