Kalif Raymond

Consensus #166 · WR58Week 9: vs TB, 13th vs WRUpdated Oct 20

Raymond is a 32-year-old rotational WR3/WR4 whose Week 1 to 3 production has faded as Odunze, Burden and Loveland have taken over the Bears' passing game.

Role

Snap share has swung week to week. Raymond played 60% of snaps in Week 1 (Yahoo snap count), and FantasyPros put him at 67.6% in Week 5 with a 57.4% route share. In the Week 6 win over Atlanta on Oct. 18 he played 36 of 77 snaps (47%) per SI's Bears snap count. Rome Odunze played 74 snaps (96%) and Colston Loveland 68. Luther Burden III played 30 (39%) but led the team with eight catches. Jahdae Walker and Zavion Thomas each played 10. Raymond's Week 6 stat line is not in what I read. FantasyPros lists a 22% targets per route run, 1.90 yards per route run, four red-zone targets and a 16.8% first-read share. He also returns punts.

The case for

Ben Johnson praised him all offseason, and Raymond led the Bears in targets, catches and yards early. NBC Sports compared his role to the D.J. Moore role in a run-first offense. SI's early-season piece counted 20 targets, 19 catches and 214 yards through three games. FantasyPros noted he had two deep targets and four red-zone targets. Optimists also say Johnson can scheme him back into the plan, as happened when his snaps rebounded in Week 5.

The case against

The early numbers leaned on a 95% catch rate against a career average of 76%, a 6.2-yard average depth of target, and a busted-coverage 41-yard touchdown. SI argued he was still technically the WR3 and ranked fourth in the pass-catching pecking order. He then fell to 2 catches for 6 yards in Week 4 and 3 catches for 6 yards in Week 5. RotoBaller said the offense was settling into running through Odunze, Burden and Loveland. In Week 6 he played under half the snaps while Burden and Thomas were deliberately featured.

Where analysts split

Whether Raymond keeps a real slot and underneath role as the Bears' third receiver, or becomes a situational player behind Odunze, Burden and Loveland. NBC Sports and FantasyPros read his Week 1 to 3 usage as a durable rotational role. SI and RotoBaller read it as an outlier that is already fading. His Week 6 snap share of 47% points toward the second view, but one game is a small sample.
