KC Concepcion Jr.
Concepcion is a rookie first-round slot receiver who had his best game in Week 7 and is now a rising, but still volatile, piece of the Browns passing game. Whether that holds is the open question.
Role
He is the primary slot receiver in a short-area role (NBC Sports/Rotoworld). PFF had him at 55 plays and 79% of snaps in Week 7 at Tennessee, with 10 targets and three carries. A fantasyteamadvice.com snap log shows 35, 38, 60 and 59 offensive snaps in Weeks 1 to 4, then 11 in Week 5 at the Jets. I did not find why that Week 5 figure was low, and I did not check it against a second source. Competition for targets includes fellow rookie Denzel Boston, tight end Harold Fannin and veteran Jerry Jeudy, whom NBC Sports described as being phased out. The wire note has him limited in Wednesday's practice with calf and quad issues. Whether that affects his Week 8 role (at the Steelers) is not confirmed in what I found.
He was a 10-target, 8-catch, 129-yard game in Week 7 and had a 29% target share (CBS Sports). He creates after the catch, with 82 of his yards coming that way. The Browns are designing touches for him: Yahoo noted a league-high nine designed targets entering Week 7. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Browns want Deshaun Watson to get him more involved. CBS puts him in the WR2/3 mix, and Watson's chemistry with him is reportedly growing.
Before Week 7 he had produced little for his volume: 20 targets for 80 yards through Week 3, and a 6.6 yards-per-catch average. Week 7 was his first game over 100 yards, and his Week 6 line was 4 catches on 6 targets for 37 yards. He has no career touchdown, and he dropped a sure touchdown in Week 7. He has trailed Boston in production. Yahoo's stats piece says it is hard to predict which Browns pass-catcher will be worth playing, so it calls him a bye-week fill-in. The calf and quad limitation adds some risk.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is whether Week 7 marks a real shift to a high-volume, yards-after-the-catch role or is a one-game spike from a short-area slot receiver. CBS says WR2/3 mix, USA TODAY says WR4 or flex with upside, and the Yahoo stats piece says bye-week fill-in.
