Mack Hollins

Consensus #245 · WR91Week 9: vs GB, 23rd vs WRIRUpdated Oct 20

Hollins is a 33-year-old WR on injured reserve with a calf injury, so he gives nothing until he is activated, and the first possible return is Week 9.

Role

Before the injury he led New England with 15 catches and 209 yards through four games (ESPN, Oct. 10). His role grew after A.J. Brown (high-ankle sprain) went down in the opener. The Patriots' other receivers are Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams. Doubs went on IR with a shoulder injury on Oct. 19 (Boston Globe), which could open more snaps if Hollins returns. I found no snap share or target share figures, and no depth chart read.

The case for

He was the team's top producer while Brown was out, and his usage grew as the receiver room thinned. Doubs's IR move and Brown's injury leave few experienced receivers, so a healthy Hollins could return to a sizable role. Rolling Out says his return would add an experienced body to the rotation.

The case against

He is 33 and returning from a calf injury, and he must miss at least the minimum IR stay. He also had an abdominal injury that put him on IR late last season. Brown's return from his ankle injury would push him down the target pecking order, and the offense has tended to spread targets around (CBS Sports, last season).

Where analysts split

Broad agreement on the facts: he is out and cannot return before Week 9. I found no analyst split. What's unknown is his role once he is back, which depends on Brown's health and how Doubs's absence is covered. I found no reporting on a timeline beyond eligibility.

Injury: IR: assessed avoid

On IR with calf injury, eligible to return this week

Hollins remains on IR and has not yet returned to practice; while he's eligible for activation and could play against the Packers, he's not practicing as of this report, so he's unrosterable until confirmed active.

What would change this: Confirmation he's been activated from IR and practices this week

Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
