He shares the tight end job with Darnell Washington. Snap counts from the Fox and CBS pages: 46 of 67 (68.7 percent) in Week 2 and 37 of 62 (60 percent) in Week 3, where Washington had 47 (76 percent). Steelers Depot recorded 46 snaps (73 percent) in Week 1. Fox described the Week 4 split as a "pretty even timeshare". Freiermuth also takes direct snaps under center in a short-yardage package (Cumberlink, Oct 11). Per NBC Sports (Oct 25), he had 4 targets to Washington's 1 in Week 7, and he did not appear bothered by the calf injury that limited him in Week 6. I did not find a snap count for Week 7.
Aaron Rodgers is using him in the red zone, and he had 3 touchdowns over Weeks 4 and 5, including 2 against the Colts on 7 targets. He has had at least four targets in every game that I found. The calf looked fine in Week 7, and the Week 7 target split favored him heavily over Washington. Steelers Depot noted that his snap share has risen from last year's low of 522 snaps, down from 776 in 2024.
The volume is capped. He has never topped 7 targets in a game this season, and his Week 6 and Week 7 lines were 2 catches for 11 yards and 2 catches for 20 yards. Washington often out-snaps him, and CBS calls him largely touchdown-dependent. Last year he had career lows of 41 catches on 54 targets for 486 yards and 4 touchdowns, and his weekly output has leaned on scoring.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is whether his Week 5 touchdown surge and Week 7 target lead signal a lasting role, or whether the even split with Washington and the lack of yardage volume keep him a touchdown-dependent option. CBS and FantasyData lean toward the second view, while Rotowire's Sep 25 piece rated him a low-end starter against the Bengals.
