Ted Hurst III
Ted Hurst is a rookie third-round deep-ball X receiver who starts in Tampa Bay but gets uneven targets, and his production depends on who plays quarterback.
Role
He started in Week 2 alongside Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka and played 48 of 65 snaps (73.8%), per RotoWire. In Week 1 he played 43 of 57 snaps per PFF, with Jalen McMillan (knee) inactive. NBC Sports said that share would last only as long as McMillan was out. In Week 5 he played 33 snaps, a distant third behind Egbuka (64) and Godwin (63), and had zero targets. In Week 6 he had 3 catches on 6 targets for 40 yards, plus a pass interference call that gained 22 yards. His season line through six games is 11 catches on 22 targets for 168 yards and 1 TD (CBS/RotoWire). I did not find a current depth chart page, and I did not find McMillan's current status.
He has the frame and speed to stretch the field: NBC listed him at 6'4/206 with a 4.42 forty. His average depth of target is 21.6 yards (PFF), which gives him big-play upside on any given throw. His one touchdown was a 40-yard deep ball. Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said he has improved week after week. CBS/RotoWire said he could get a boost if Baker Mayfield (thumb) returns in Week 7 against Carolina.
Target volume is erratic: he had three or more targets in each of the first five weeks' games except Week 5, when he had none. PFF grades him 57.3, 74th of 78 qualified wideouts, with 2 drops. Egbuka and Godwin both out-snapped him in Week 5. NBC noted Mayfield was missing deep throws in Week 2, and the offense has lost several games. The Steelers game was the first with a pass-rush-heavy script that Yardbarker said could limit his downfield chances.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether Hurst's deep-target role holds up under Jalon Daniels, the interim quarterback, or improves if Mayfield returns from his thumb injury. The coverage I found does not frame this as an analyst split. It is the one uncertainty the sources raise, and I found no head-to-head debate.
