Tetairoa McMillan
McMillan is Carolina's top receiver in his second season. He has been steady, with one monster game and a few quiet ones, and he has no injury designation.
Role
He is a full-time starting receiver and Bryce Young's main target, though not the only one. ESPN's player page (checked today) says that against the Eagles he tied Jalen Coker for the team lead in receptions but finished second to Coker in yards and targets. He had nine targets in that game. Earlier in the season he had 10 targets against the Falcons (CBS Sports), 5 against the Browns, and a 14-catch, 192-yard, two-touchdown game against the Lions in Week 4 (ESPN). Preseason coverage (CatCrave, about six weeks old) said new play-caller Brad Idzik was expected to use him in the slot more. It named Coker, Xavier Legette and Jimmy Horn Jr. as the other pass catchers. I did not find a snap-share figure or a current depth chart, so I can't give either. Next up is a home game against the Buccaneers in Week 7, per ESPN.
ESPN's projection (checked today) calls him a candidate to move into the elite receiver tier. He is the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, and he has gone for at least 75 receiving yards in four of his first five games. The Week 4 game showed his ceiling. As a rookie he ranked in the top 15 among receivers in snaps, routes, targets and target share, and the slot role could add more middle-of-the-field work for him.
Target volume is not locked in. He has gone without a touchdown in some games, and Fantasy Data noted he had yet to score through three games. He was held to 17 yards on five targets against Cleveland. Coker out-targeted him against the Eagles. ESPN's projection also notes he lacked upside as a rookie, with only one top-10 outing, so his output can swing from game to game.
Where analysts split
The question is whether he is a true alpha who gets the most targets and touchdowns, or a high-floor receiver who shares the work with Coker. The reports I found don't argue this directly. They simply show Coker out-targeting him in the latest game.
