T.J. Hockenson
Hockenson is a mid-volume tight end in a low-scoring Minnesota offense. His usage has been steady apart from one 13-target game when Justin Jefferson was out, and nothing I found says that has changed.
Role
Reporting through Week 3 had him playing 69.2% of snaps in Week 2 and running 19 routes to Josh Oliver's four (Rotowire). In the Week 4 game without Jefferson he played 83% of snaps and led the team in targets. ESPN's note (3 days old) says he has topped five targets just once in six games and carries a 27-237-2 line on 32 targets. FantasyPros after Week 2 had a 20.5% target share and a 16.7% first-read share, which it called solid but nothing otherworldly. He missed most of the Week 5 game with a first-quarter concussion (2 offensive snaps per Statchasers). I found no current snap-share or depth-chart reading, and I did not fetch a depth chart.
The Week 4 game shows what happens when the target tree thins out: 13 catches on 13 targets for 119 yards, TE1 for the week, with Kyler Murray looking to him as the lead receiver. He gets routes while Oliver gets few, he scored in the latest game, and ESPN flags a Week 8 revenge game against the Lions.
Outside the Jefferson-less game his volume is modest, often four or five targets. The offense is scoring little: the last three results were 16-10, 15-10 and 9-3 wins, and a touchdown on only four catches is not repeatable. His average depth of target is 6.5 yards and he has no deep targets, so his ceiling depends on Jefferson being out or on touchdowns. ESPN ranks him 19th at the position.
Where analysts split
Whether the Week 4 workload was a one-off tied to Jefferson's absence or a sign of a bigger role with Murray. I found no analyst making a firm argument either way, so this is my read of the data and not a reported split.
