Tory Horton

Consensus #247 · WR93Week 9: vs ARI, 21st vs WRUpdated Oct 20

Horton is Seattle's WR4 who has been a low-volume depth receiver all season. The Week 6 target bump was real but looks tied to game script.

Role

Reported as the WR4 behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed (ESPN and Fox, about Oct. 17-19). Week 6 at Denver: 37 snaps (45%) and 24 routes, per RotoWire's box score breakdown. That was a bit more time at Shaheed's expense. He had five targets, one catch for 13 yards, and he returned a punt. Week 5 vs. SF: 9 offensive snaps and no targets, his low for the season. Week 2: 22 of 70 snaps. Season line through Week 6: 5-67-1 on nine targets through five regular-season games (ESPN). That count may not include the Week 6 targets, so treat it with caution. Fox says Shaheed is ahead of him on kick and punt returns, though he returned a punt in Week 6.

The case for

He got five targets in a game with Sam Darnold throwing a season-high 51 times. RotoWire noted he took some of Shaheed's playing time. Shaheed was under 50% of snaps in back-to-back games. He scored in Week 5's win over the Chargers on his only target, and Rotowire's preseason profile called him a possible future starter with 4.41 speed. If Smith-Njigba, Kupp or Shaheed misses time, he is the next man up.

The case against

Snap counts have swung from 9 to 37 without a clear trend. Kupp has topped an 80% snap share in consecutive games, with Smith-Njigba and Shaheed also ahead of him. The Week 6 targets produced one catch for 13 yards. A Fox/Rotowire note says he is unlikely to draw enough targets for fantasy consideration in most formats without an injury ahead of him. RotoWire's preseason view was that there are only so many deep and red-zone looks to go around.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement that he is the WR4. The only open question is whether Week 6's 45% snap share and five targets, which came with a pass-heavy game script and at Shaheed's expense, is a new usage level or a one-game spike. The sources I found did not argue it either way, and I did not find beat-writer or Athletic coverage.
