Travis Hunter
Hunter is a full-time cornerback for Jacksonville right now, and the team says he is not a receiver for the foreseeable future, so his offensive value is close to nil unless the plan changes.
Role
Through four games, USA Today (as relayed by a secondary outlet) has him at 74% of defensive snaps and 6% on offense. He played all 76 defensive snaps in the 22-17 win over Cincinnati and none on offense, per Yahoo Sports and Black and Teal. His only offensive work this year came in the opener: four snaps, one catch for 8 yards and one carry for 3 (AP). On defense he started the first two games at cornerback in a rotation with Montaric Brown and Jones, and he played 57.4% of defensive snaps in that stretch (ESPN). Receiver snaps now go to a deeper group: AP names Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and rookies Josh Cameron and CJ Williams. I have not read a current depth chart page, so I can't say where he is listed.
His corner play has improved, and the coaches are leaning on it. Yahoo cites a PFF coverage grade of 76.3 through Week 4, the best among Jaguars cornerbacks, with 10 catches allowed on 17 targets. The coaching staff talks about him as a full-time corner. If he keeps that up, the defensive snaps stay locked in. The optimists on the two-way side point to his 2025 offensive usage, 67% of offensive snaps over seven games, and a rotation that could open back up if the coaches decide they want it.
Coach Liam Coen said the team wants to "stay firm on the plan" of using Hunter primarily on defense, and AP says receiver may be off the table "maybe not again this season." The receiver room is deeper than it was a year ago. Yahoo's headline calls the two-way experiment "totally dead." The Cincinnati workload may also have been inflated: Black and Teal says Hunter played every snap because Brown did not suit up. So 100% may not be his normal share.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is whether Hunter returns to offense this season. Coen and AP say no for now. Black and Teal frames a tough two-way decision and argues his corner play might justify delaying the two-way plan. The O-Zone column on jaguars.com expects the staff to give him more of both only once he has proven it helps them win. The second question is whether his defensive snaps stay near full-time, or return to the rotation he had in Weeks 1 and 2, once Brown is back.
