Harris began 2026 as the Chargers' leading receiver, but the hamstring injury (week-to-week per Harbaugh) puts his availability in doubt for an indefinite stretch.
Role
Through four games he had 13 catches on 21 targets for 209 yards (FantasyData, about Oct 12). In Week 4 at Seattle he played 66 of 71 snaps (93%) and ran 39 of 43 routes (91%), both team-leading figures per FantasyData. RotoWire's snap table showed him at 77% of snaps, behind only Quentin Johnston at 80%, with Ladd McConkey at 54%. That table was an older snapshot, and I could not read the week it covers. Johnston was ruled out and McConkey (foot) was questionable for the Week 5 Denver game, which raised Harris's workload. NBC Sports called him the likely top outside receiver by snaps. I did not find his Week 5 snap count. NBC's headline says he had two catches in that game. Whoever is next up in his absence is unconfirmed. The Athletic's Daniel Popper wrote that Brenen Thompson is battling Harris for snaps. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Derius Davis also appear in RotoWire's WR snap table, with smaller shares. I did not read a current depth chart.
He led the team in receiving yards in back-to-back games (76 against Buffalo, then 60 against Seattle). He also had a 53-yard catch in Week 2 and a career-high seven targets in Week 3. ESPN's Kris Rhim reported the Chargers expect him to be a legitimate part of the passing offense next to McConkey and Johnston. His role has moved from rookie depth to a full-time snap share, and he has the 6'3" frame and big-play upside.
The hamstring is week-to-week with no return timeline given, so he could miss games. His volume has also been tied to teammates' absences. He got his biggest workloads as a rookie when Johnston was out, and in Week 5 he was held to two catches against a strong Broncos defense. When McConkey and Johnston are healthy, he may drop back to WR3 or lower. Last season he was largely the WR4 and finished with 30 catches for 324 yards on 43 targets over 17 games. The offense has also struggled, losing four straight games before the Denver loss.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether his 2026 usage is a lasting WR2/WR3 role or a fill-in role that shrinks once McConkey and Johnston are both healthy. Coverage I found, including FantasyData and NBC, leans toward a real role. Reports from earlier in the year still call him WR3 behind McConkey and Johnston. I found no analyst piece on how the injury changes this.
