Offense: 13 snaps in the Monday night win over the Saints (RotoWire via ESPN), 14 against the Panthers and 18 against the Steelers (RotoWire via CBS). He has exactly two targets in each of the last three games. Through three games he had 3 catches on 4 targets for 21 yards, and PFF showed an average depth of target of 1.5. Special teams: he is the No. 1 punt returner (CBS/RotoWire) and also returns kickoffs. Competition: Drake London, Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheaus. I did not read a current depth chart or a snap-share percentage.
The Falcons appear committed to using him in several ways to take advantage of his speed and explosiveness (Fox Sports). His return yardage is real, and his college profile was strong after the catch. The Athletic's Josh Kendall, in a summer piece relayed by Delta Fantasy, said he could finish among the team's top three in targets. That is a preseason projection, and the regular-season usage so far has not matched it.
ESPN/RotoWire calls him primarily a special-teams asset and says he has little to no offensive upside while London, Dotson and Zaccheaus are available. His targets are capped at two per game, with a tiny average depth of target. He also draws only a few offensive snaps. ESPN's projection notes he is a small slot player whose college average depth of target was just 5.2.
Where analysts split
The question is whether Branch moves past gadget and returner usage into a real receiver role, or only gets more work if London, Dotson or Zaccheaus miss time. The Athletic's summer view was optimistic, while current RotoWire and ESPN notes say the role is capped. I found no current beat-writer reporting that settles it.
