Artturi Lehkonen

Consensus #65 · LW12 · tier 7Week 5: 4 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Lehkonen is Colorado's first-line left winger beside Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas, with second power-play and penalty-kill work. Every source I read agrees on that.

Role

Daily Faceoff's line page, fetched 2 November (last updated 1 November), has him at LW on the top line with MacKinnon and Necas, on the second power-play unit with Landeskog, Schwartz, Toews and Nelson, and on the second penalty-kill unit with Nelson. Inside the Rink's 31 October preview lists the same top line, the same second power-play unit and the same second PK pairing. Colorado Hockey Now and ESPN also show him on line 1. The competition for his spot is Landeskog, who leads the second line with Nelson and Roy, and Schwartz on the third line. Beat-writer posts on gamedaytweets, which are undated in the results, show Bednar sometimes shuffling the lines, including Lehkonen-MacKinnon-Schwartz. I found no ice-time figures for this season. Last season's total was 262 TOI over 14 GP.

The case for

He skates with MacKinnon and Necas at even strength and gets second-unit power-play time. CBS Sports (undated) credits him with four goals in his first six games of this season. Last season he had 12 G and 17 PTS in 14 GP. Frozen Pool's last-game table for 28 October shows that trio with a 13-3 shot edge in about 11:34 together.

The case against

His spot depends on the top line staying intact. Beat-writer posts show Bednar has moved Lehkonen off MacKinnon's wing at times, and a trade, an injury or another shuffle could change the line. He is not on the first power-play unit, which lists Hughes, Kadri, Necas, Makar and MacKinnon. Last season's total was only 14 GP, and CBS (undated) notes he has rarely played a full season. His 12 goals on 28 SOG last season is a high shooting rate that may not repeat. A Frozen Pool card shows a shooting percentage of 18.9, but the card is garbled, so I would not rely on it.
