Kyle Connor
Kyle Connor is still Winnipeg's top-line left wing and first power-play option, and his shot volume is intact despite a recent cold stretch, so he stays the offense's centerpiece for the rest of the season.
Role
Projected line from Jets Nation, citing Daily Faceoff, 29 October: Connor with Mark Scheifele at center and Cole Perfetti on the right side. The Morning Puck's page, indexed 12 days ago, shows the same trio, with Connor at 21:34 of ice time in the game it displays. I fetched Daily Faceoff's Jets page (last updated 1 November). Its power-play section lists Connor on the first unit with Vilardi, Scheifele, Perfetti and Pionk. Its forward grid came through in a scrambled order that did not match other sources, so I am not reading a 1 November line from it. Competition for the work: Vilardi and Dawson Mercer sit on the other lines or the second power-play unit. Scott Arniel has kept Connor and Scheifele together for years, and Hockey News reported Arniel discussing line changes to build chemistry while not revealing his plan for the Tampa game. Nothing found confirms what he did.
Connor has 9 goals, 3 assists and 52 shots through 12 games (Jets Nation, 29 October). That pace comes from shot volume and finishing, which Jets Nation calls the offensive foundation. Last season he scored 11 goals on 59 shots in 15 games. He holds first-unit power-play time and plays heavy minutes beside Scheifele, with whom he logged more even-strength minutes than any NHL duo in the prior season (Oilers Nation analysis). The cold spell looks like variance on a top line that lacks help.
Winnipeg was on a six-game losing streak as of 29 October. Hockey News said Connor had one point in his last five games, and Scheifele and Perfetti were also quiet. Jets Nation says the team needs more scoring from its other three lines, which suggests defenses can key on the top trio. If Arniel breaks up the line, Connor's linemates and production could change. He was also -5 in last season's 15 games, and the team's slump could continue.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on Connor's role and talent. The only open question is whether Arniel keeps the Connor, Scheifele and Perfetti trio together through the slump, since Hockey News reported he was discussing changes, or reshuffles the top six. I found no outcome for that.
