Dylan Holloway
Holloway is a top-six-capable left wing who was demoted from the Robert Thomas line to the third line about three days ago, and his role is still shifting game to game.
Role
Through the first 11 games he skated left wing with Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snuggerud and was on the first power-play unit (5v5 Hockey, Oct 24; Inside the Rink, Oct 13). Coach Jim Montgomery then reshuffled after back-to-back shutouts (Yahoo, about three days old). Practice lines on Oct 28 had Holloway with Dalibor Dvorsky and Connor McMichael on the third line (beat writer Lindsay Korac via GameDayTweets). Inside the Rink's Oct 31 preview against Detroit lists the same third line and has him on the second power-play unit with Buchnevich, McMichael, Jiricek and Fowler. ESPN's page, indexed 10 days ago, also has him on PP2. Dobber's Oct 31 shift data shows mixed deployment: 5:42 at even strength with Thomas and Snuggerud, 5:32 with McMichael and Dvorsky, and 2:22 with Buchnevich and McMichael. In that game Thomas-Holloway-Snuggerud was on ice for two goals for and none against. Neighbours moved up to the Thomas line in the pregame projection. I could not read a current Daily Faceoff page: the fetch returned a page last updated in April, so I'm not using it. I found no ice-time figures for this season. The Blues' own reporting on how Montgomery will use the lines going forward was not found.
Holloway signed a five-year extension at $7.75 million per year in May (Yahoo). Early in the season Box Score Junkie, cited by Inside the Rink on Oct 13, had him at 60.3% Corsi-for with 62.1 shot attempts for per 60, scoreless on 0.8 expected goals, which suggests the finishing should follow. He was on the top line and first power-play unit for the first 11 games, and he still got shifts with Thomas on Oct 31. He was at 10 points through the Blues' first 12 games, and Yahoo framed the shake-up as a possible spark.
He has three goals through 12 games (Yahoo) and has now been moved off the top line and to the second power-play unit. The third line he drew, with Dvorsky and McMichael, was on ice for a 1-3 shot split and a goal against in its 5:32 on Oct 31 (Dobber). Shutouts and a shuffle suggest the staff is not settled, and the Thomas line's minutes could go to Neighbours, who was listed there pregame on Oct 31.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether Holloway gets back on the Thomas-Snuggerud line and first power-play unit or stays on the third line and PP2. The Oct 28 practice lines and the Oct 31 projection say third line. The Oct 31 in-game shifts show Montgomery still mixing him with Thomas. I found no analyst reporting on which it will be.
