Gabriel Landeskog

Consensus #171 · LW30 · tier 9Week 5: 4 gamesUpdated Oct 26

Landeskog is a second-line left wing with second-unit power-play time on Colorado's current projected lines, and coverage points to a middle-six scorer, not a top-line driver.

Role

Inside the Rink's projections for 10/23 and 10/25, plus Colorado Hockey Now (about two days old), have him at left wing on line 2 with Brock Nelson and Nazem Kadri. Line 1 is Lehkonen, MacKinnon and Necas. The 10/23 preview has him on the second power-play unit with Lehkonen, Nelson, Toews and Necas, and a beat-writer post lists him on PP2 as well. The Morning Puck page, about three days old, shows him at 11:51 of ice time in one game, but I could not tell which game. Competition for the work is unclear. Schwartz, Svechkov and Hughes are on line 3. Beat-writer posts show Bednar has shuffled the lines, including Landeskog-Kadri-Necas, then returned to the usual group on Oct. 20 per one post. Daily Faceoff's own line page fetch returned only a stale April 2026 snapshot with no usable lines, so I am not reporting what it says.

The case for

He has held a second-line spot beside Nelson and Kadri through the early games, and he already has a first-period goal from the 10/23 game against Tampa Bay, set up by Makar. He gets power-play time on a deep team, and he skates with playmakers. Last season's 12 games produced 7 points and 15 shots, and he adds hits as well. That's a small sample, but it shows the scoring is there when he plays.

The case against

He is a 33-year-old who has had major knee trouble and played only 12 games last season, so durability is a real concern. His power-play time is on the second unit, behind a first unit that beat-writer posts show as built around Makar, MacKinnon and Kadri, with Hughes and Schwartz in some versions. The Morning Puck's single-game 11:51 suggests his minutes may be modest, though that is one game. Bednar's line blending could also move him around the lineup.

Where analysts split

broad agreement on his current slot (line 2 left wing, PP2). I found no analysts arguing over it in current coverage. The open question is how long he stays healthy and whether Bednar's shuffling or the first power-play unit's makeup changes his role.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
