Ivan Barbashev
Ivan Barbashev is the left wing on Vegas's top line with Jack Eichel and Mark Stone, and he plays the second power-play unit. The coverage I found does not show any real disagreement about his role.
Role
Aggregator and projection pages from 17 to 22 October list him at LW1 with Eichel and Stone (5v5 Hockey as of Oct 17, Inside the Rink's Oct 22 game preview, ESPN's line-combo page and The Morning Puck's page, which is dated about 11 days old in the index). Those same pages put him on PP2 with William Karlsson, Braeden Bowman, Rasmus Andersson and Shea Theodore. PP1 is listed as Stone, Eichel, Tomas Hertl, Trevor Connelly and Mitch Marner, though ESPN's page differs slightly on the personnel. Competition for the left-wing spot is not named in anything I read, but the Oct 22 preview and a lineup tweet from about 12 days before this search both show Connelly, Marner, Howden or Holtz rotating through the lines around him. I read these as search snippets and did not fetch the Daily Faceoff page, so I have no ice-time figures and no reporter's account of how the line is being used.
He skates with Eichel and Stone, which is the top line, and projection pages call that group the heaviest 5v5 minutes on the roster. He is a net-front forechecker, and he is on PP2 for extra offensive opportunities. Last season he had 9 points in 13 games, which fits a player who produces when he is slotted with top-line linemates.
PP1 belongs to other players, so his power-play upside is limited to the second unit. Last season's data shows only 13 GP, 1 G and 2 PPP, so the sample is small and he is not a proven top-line scorer. Connelly was moved onto the top line in one preseason game and the lines have changed around him, so his linemates may not stay fixed. A scoring slump could also lead to another reshuffle, though I found no reporting of that.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement. Every current line source I found has him at LW1 with Eichel and Stone. I found no analyst piece arguing otherwise.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
