Jake DeBrusk

Consensus #277 · LW48 · tier 9Week 5: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

DeBrusk is a top-line left winger on a Canucks team that is 3-12 on ESPN's page, with first-unit power-play time in the sources I read, and his day-to-day tag is the open question.

Role

ESPN's Canucks line-combination page, which I fetched on 2 November and which is powered by RotoWire, has him at LW on the first line with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, and on PP1 with those two. Drew O'Connor is the second-line LW on that page. Frozen Pool's game-by-game line data for the 31 October game against Toronto shows DeBrusk-Boeser-Pettersson as the top even-strength trio, and the same trio plus Jonathan Lekkerimaki on the power play. Earlier in the season he skated with Pettersson and Linus Karlsson (20 October vs. Carolina) and with Pettersson and Lekkerimaki in line-rush projections, so the right-wing slot has rotated. I could not confirm his ice time this season. The wire note says day-to-day, and I found no practice report or coach's update after it. A Frozen Pool news snippet mentions he missed a Calgary game with an illness, but I could not date it and cannot tie it to the current note.

The case for

He sits on the top line and PP1 next to Pettersson and Boeser, the Canucks' most prominent offensive pairing. His last-season line of 30 shots in 14 games suggests he shoots often when he plays. A weak team that is chasing games may keep its top unit on the ice for long stretches.

The case against

His top-line spot has moved around: ESPN's page and Frozen Pool show different right wingers with him, and he has moved between linemates before. Last season he played only 14 games, with 3 goals, 5 assists and a -3 rating. The 3-12 record means the line may not be producing, and the Toronto game data showed the top trio outshot at even strength (4 shots for, 6 against) and on the ice for a goal against. The day-to-day status is unresolved, and an absence could cost him his spot.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement: I found no analyst argument about him. The sources I read all slot him on the top line, so the open question is health and whether the top-line combination holds. His wire status is unresolved, and I found no coach or beat-writer update after it.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
