Jake Neighbours
Jake Neighbours is a third-line left wing who also gets first-unit power-play time and penalty-kill minutes, based on projected-line sites checked 26 October. I found no beat-writer or Athletic analysis, so this rests on line data only.
Role
Projected lines for the Oct. 22 game (Inside the Rink) and the Morning Puck page (indexed six days ago) have him on the third line with Dalibor Dvorsky and Pavel Buchnevich. Inside the Rink's Oct. 22 preview lists him on the first power-play unit with Robert Thomas, Dylan Holloway, Jimmy Snuggerud and Philip Broberg. The same preview has him on the first penalty-kill unit with Pius Suter, Broberg and Colton Parayko. Dobber's Frozen Pool shows that in the Oct. 24 game against Carolina he played about 7:27 at even strength with Buchnevich and Dvorsky. He also had short shifts with Thomas, Holloway and Snuggerud, which looks like in-game line mixing. A gameday-tweets item says he swapped for Holloway at times in one game and finished a Thomas feed for his second goal of the season. That item is undated in the results, so I can't place it. The competition for his spot is Holloway, McMichael and Berggren on the wings above or beside him. I could not read ice-time totals for this season. Daily Faceoff's page fetched but returned no player names and carried an April 2026 timestamp, so I am not using it.
He holds a first-unit power-play spot even though he plays on the third line, and he also kills penalties, so he has a role in all three situations. He also gets occasional shifts beside Thomas at even strength. Last season's line of 11 games, 3 PPP and 37 hits shows the power-play and physical profile.
At even strength he plays about 7 to 9 minutes a night on a third line, well below the top two lines, and the Oct. 24 shot share with Buchnevich and Dvorsky was poor (22.2% shots for, in one game). The first power-play unit is listed differently across sources, and his place on it depends on the coaching staff keeping that setup. Last season's sample was only 11 games, so we hold little evidence about his full-season output.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on the current role, but I found no analyst commentary at all. The open question is whether his first-unit power-play spot and occasional shifts with Thomas turn into a permanent top-six role. I found no one arguing either side of that.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
