Jared McCann
McCann is the top-line left wing for Seattle and has started the season healthy and productive, after last season was cut short to 9 games.
Role
The Oct 15 Inside the Rink preview and Sound of Hockey (Oct 15) both list him on the top line with Matty Beniers at center and Mackie Samoskevich on the right. Dobber's Frozen Tools shows that trio again in the Oct 17 game against Florida. He also plays on the second power-play unit, listed with Eberle, McMann, Stephenson and Dunn. Kakko, Catton, Samoskevich, Beniers and Montour are listed on the first unit. Sound of Hockey has that top line second in 5v5 ice time at 10:19 per game, behind the McMann, Stephenson and Eberle line at 11:13. I did not fetch the Daily Faceoff page, so this comes from secondary line sites.
Sound of Hockey says he is tied for the team lead with seven points, two goals and five assists, and that he has not lost a beat after missing 30 games to injury last season. It also calls the McCann, Beniers and Samoskevich trio the Kraken's best line at moving play up the ice, and notes he is in a contract year. Last season he scored 8 points in 9 games, 3 of them on the power play, with 26 shots.
Sound of Hockey reports that only 9.5 percent of this line's shifts start in the offensive zone, about five points lower than last season's deployment for McCann and Beniers. He is on the second power-play unit, not the first. The line is not clearly the top line in practice: head coach Lane Lambert, asked about the top line's play, replied by asking which line was the top line. Last season he missed 30 games to injury, so his health history is a concern, and last season's 9-game sample is small.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on his role. The only open questions I found are whether this line gets the most 5v5 minutes, since the McMann line leads there, and whether his second-unit power-play role changes. No analyst I found argues he is anything other than a top-line winger.
Injury: IR: assessed avoid
Out ~10 weeks, lower body
A roughly 10-week absence confirmed by the team puts him out well beyond IR and into long-term territory for fantasy purposes; he should be dropped or stashed on IR only if your league allows, not rostered as an active piece.
What would change this: Any update on practice return or shortened timeline as the expected return date (Jan 2) approaches.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
