Pierre-Luc Dubois
Dubois is Washington's top-line center and its top defensive center, and he appears to be back in the lineup after an illness. His 2026-27 role is set more by the power-play question than by the even-strength line.
Role
Daily Faceoff's Capitals page (fetched Nov. 1, last updated Nov. 1, sourced to Sammi Silber) has him centering Aliaksei Protas and Tom Wilson on the top line. It puts him on the second power-play unit, with Ilya Protas, Alex Tuch, Ryan Leonard and Cole Hutson. The first unit there is Wilson, Dylan Strome, Jordan Kyrou, Alex Ovechkin and Jakob Chychrun. I read no ice-time figure for this season. Dobber's Frozen Tools last-game page for the Oct. 29 game against Nashville shows Wilson-Dubois-Protas as his most-used line, at 7:50 of even-strength time. The Washington Sun (Oct. 22) said he had missed five games with an unspecified illness and was still on injured reserve then. It said he had three points in four games before that, and that Tuch-Dubois-Wilson was playing together before the illness. Daily Faceoff now has Tuch on the second line instead. I did not find a reliable report of his exact return date.
Wilson called him one of the best 200-foot centers in the game when healthy. The Sun called him the best defensive center on the roster and said he plays in every situation. The Tuch-Dubois-Wilson line, all 6'4", ranked first on the club in expected goals over its four games together. He was reportedly one of the best-conditioned players in camp after missing most of last season with injuries. Washington's power play ranks 31st in the NHL in offensive-zone time, so a change that helps it could lift him.
He played only 8 games last season and scored 7 points with no power-play points, so there is little recent production to lean on. He has already missed time this season. Daily Faceoff has him on the second power-play unit, behind a first unit of Wilson, Strome, Kyrou, Ovechkin and Chychrun. Carbery says he is going matchup by matchup and with the hot hand, so the line pairings could keep changing. His role leans on shutdown matchups more than on scoring.
Where analysts split
Which power-play unit he plays on. The Sun (Oct. 22) called him part of the first unit, while Daily Faceoff's page (Nov. 1) has him on the second. Carbery has said he will keep tinkering with the personnel. A smaller question is whether he stays between Wilson and Tuch or Carbery keeps them apart.
