Viktor Arvidsson
Arvidsson is a top-line right wing on a first-unit power-play role right now, and I found no current reporting that questions it.
Role
Daily Faceoff's Red Wings line page (fetched Nov. 2, last updated Oct. 31) has him on the first line at right wing, with Alex DeBrincat at left wing and Emmitt Finnie at center. The same page puts him on the first power-play unit with Finnie, Lucas Raymond, DeBrincat and Moritz Seider. Inside the Rink's Nov. 2 preview at Florida and Detroit Hockey Now's lines page list the same trio and the same first unit. Detroit Hockey Now says the move came on Oct. 21, when Finnie went up to first-line center and Arvidsson shifted to first-line right wing. Before that he skated on a line with Dylan Larkin and Raymond. I did not find his ice time this season. He is not on the penalty-kill units on that page. Last season he had 6 power-play points in 14 games.
He has a first-line, first-unit job with DeBrincat and Finnie. The Hockey News noted his 54-point season the year before last, and said Detroit signed him to help offset Patrick Kane's departure. Coach Todd McLellan coached him in Los Angeles and has talked about fitting him with a two-way, puck-hounding center like Finnie. Last season's 14 points in 14 games, 8 of them goals, show the scoring is still there when he plays.
Last season he played only 14 games, so durability is a real question at age 33. His line spot has already moved once this season, from the Larkin and Raymond line to the Finnie line, and the lines can move again when other forwards are healthy. ESPN's page from about two weeks ago listed Larkin, Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton on injured reserve. I did not check their current status, so I can't say how a return would change his spot. Detroit has other options on the wings, including Raymond and Michael Brandsegg-Nygård on the second line and the second power-play unit.
