Bez Mbeng
Mbeng is a free agent with no NBA roster spot: the Heat waived him on October 17, and reports expect him to land with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, so he has no NBA role right now.
Role
He has no NBA minutes or usage at the moment. Hoops Rumors, Yardbarker and BVM Sports (all October 17) said he was cut from Exhibit 10 camp deals and is expected to join Sioux Falls, Miami's G League affiliate. I found no report of another NBA club signing or claiming him since. Last season he played 15 games for Utah, five as a starter, at about 32.8 minutes per game (per Fox Sports). That workload came late in a season when the Jazz were using him as a fill-in starter, and it says nothing about this year.
The optimists point to his defense and playmaking. He was a three-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year at Yale. Late last season in Utah he filled in as a starter, and the NBA.com player page lists 8.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He also recorded a triple-double against Memphis on April 10. A guard who produces steals and assists in a starter's minutes could earn another call-up or 10-day deal if a team has injuries at guard.
Utah declined his 2026-27 team option, Charlotte waived him before the season, and Miami waived him on October 17 after three preseason games. Three teams passed on him in a short span. His big minutes last year came on a team with a thin guard rotation late in the season. He has no guaranteed NBA contract and is expected to start in the G League. Any NBA opportunity would depend on someone else's injury or roster move, and nothing I found says when one might come.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement. The coverage I found is transaction news (waived, expected to join Sioux Falls), not analysis, and I found no analyst arguing a different role for him. The only open question is whether another NBA team signs him, and nothing in the coverage speaks to that. I did not check NBA.com's transactions page or the league's current roster, so I cannot confirm he has not been signed since October 19.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
