Cade Cunningham
Cunningham is Detroit's lead ball handler and top option, and early-season reporting shows him playing 30 to 39 minutes a night, with load management the main thing to watch.
Role
Through five regular-season games the Pistons' game notes (about 5 days old) list him at 34.5 minutes, 22.6 points and 7.8 assists per game. A stats site shows 6 games at 33:24 and 22.2 points per game. Recent NBA.com game-log lines run from 28 minutes (Oct 30 at Brooklyn) to 39 (vs. Charlotte). RAW CHILI (Nov 1) says he and Daniss Jenkins handle the ball-handling, and rookie guard Ebuka Okorie has played just eight minutes in three of six games. I did not read a starting-five page or a minutes tracker, so I can't confirm the starting lineup or a back-to-back rest policy. The wire note says he sat out a Saturday game for rest, and I found no coverage explaining that or giving a pattern.
He is the clear engine of the offense. He has posted at least eight assists in most of his recent games, with 26 points on Oct 25 and 30 against Charlotte. Detroit made a deep playoff run last year, ending in Game 7 of the conference semifinals, and no one on the roster has been reported as a threat to his role. Okorie is a rookie with minimal playing time so far.
Efficiency and workload are the worries. He shot 7-of-18 against the Knicks and 6-of-15 at Brooklyn, and he has had turnover-heavy games, including 7 at Miami and 5 on opening night. Piston Powered (about 3 days old) warned that Detroit is leaning on him for heavy minutes, citing 38 against Charlotte, and that roster injuries have limited the team's ability to rest him. Heavy minutes raise the risk of injury or planned rest days.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on his role. The one open question is workload: whether Detroit keeps playing him 33 to 38 minutes or manages his minutes and rest days more carefully. The reporting I found gives opinion but no team statement on a rest plan.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
