Kasparas Jakučionis

Consensus #219 · PG79 · tier 7Week 3: 4 gamesUpdated Oct 26

Jakučionis is a 20-year-old second-year guard who looks like Milwaukee's top backup point guard behind Ryan Rollins. His minutes are real after a strong regular-season debut, but he is still inside a crowded backcourt.

Role

He came off the bench in his regular-season debut and played 26 minutes, the most of any Bucks reserve, with 15 points on 4-7 shooting and 6-6 at the line (ESPN, about three days ago). The Fantasy Data depth chart snippet lists Rollins as the starting PG, then Jakučionis, then Brayden Burries. That is a search snippet I did not fetch, so treat it as unverified. SI on SI reported six days ago that he will most likely back up Rollins after the Bucks waived Kevin Porter Jr. The same piece names Tyler Herro, AJ Green, Gary Trent Jr., Caris LeVert, Kam Jones and Cormac Ryan on the roster, so he still has competition. I found no reported usage rate and no confirmed minutes target beyond that debut. Preseason was uneven: he sat out games, started once with regulars resting, then went back to the bench when the starters returned.

The case for

The front office wanted him. Rotowire reports that GM Jon Horst cited his competitiveness, passing and shooting, and that the Bucks see a possible long-term starting point guard. Porter's waiver removed a guard ahead of him. He opened the season with the most minutes among Bucks reserves, a 15-point game and efficient free-throw shooting. He also led Milwaukee in assists in one preseason game and scored 18 points on 11-11 free throws in another.

The case against

The guard room is deep, and Behind the Buckpass argued in preseason that he was not in coach Taylor Jenkins' rotation plans. He had only 17.6 minutes through three preseason games, 16th on the team, and he was inactive for the Charlotte game on Oct. 11. His efficiency has been shaky: he shot 1-4 in a bench outing against Indiana and 3-8 against Chicago. One good regular-season game is a small sample, and the minutes could shrink once Herro, Rollins and the other guards are healthy and settled.

Where analysts split

The disagreement is whether he holds a steady backup point guard slot in a crowded guard group. Behind the Buckpass saw him out of the mix before Porter was waived. SI on SI and ESPN's fantasy blurb read the waiver and his debut minutes as an opening. Nobody I found has published a minutes expectation, so the question is still open.
