Braelon Allen
Allen has been the Jets' lead back for the past four games while Breece Hall sat with a quad injury, and the open question is how much of that work he keeps once Hall is healthy.
Role
With Hall out, Allen took 94 percent of the Jets' running back snaps in the Bears game (SI, about 19 days ago). Over Hall's first three missed games he had 55 carries for 253 yards and a touchdown (Yahoo, 5 days ago). On Sunday against Miami he had 17 carries and six catches on seven targets (our wire note), and FantasyPros said that seven-target total led the Jets' pass catchers. Hall was listed questionable for that game (CBS, 3 days ago), and I did not find a source confirming whether he played. Coach Aaron Glenn said Hall "is our starter" and Allen "is going to get touches too" (The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt via Yahoo, 5 days ago). Isaiah Davis was named as another back on the roster in a preseason note. I found no current snap data for him in a Hall-healthy game, and I found no Week 8 depth chart.
Allen has produced as the lead back, and Glenn has called him a bell cow. FantasyPros says he may have carved out a role even if Hall returns, and a Gang Green Nation piece argues his success rate as a runner has stayed above 50 percent in each of his three seasons while Hall has not topped it in five. His six catches on Sunday also suggest a real role in the passing game.
Glenn has said Hall is the starter and has always been the starter. Allen's 2026 role before the injury was a clear No. 2: in Week 1 he had 10 carries and a 40 percent snap share, behind Hall's 22 carries. The lead-back sample is only a few games, and the Gang Green Nation piece itself says he could fall flat over a full season. Once Hall is healthy, Allen's workload could drop back toward a complementary role.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is about what happens when Hall is healthy. Glenn says Hall is the starter and Allen will get touches. Some analysts, including FantasyPros and Gang Green Nation, think Allen's production has earned him a larger share, or even the lead job. Hall's return timeline is not confirmed in anything I found.
