Before the injury, Hall was the lead back but not an every-down one. Per the Yahoo and SI pieces, he played 58% and 65% of snaps in his two full games, and Yahoo put his season share at 57.5%. He had 51 carries for 163 yards and one touchdown, plus 10 catches for 102 yards, through three games. The injury came in Week 3 against Detroit. In his absence Allen has taken 86% to 94% of the backfield snaps, and ESPN has him at 19 or more touches in each of the last two games. Allen played 32 of 34 offensive snaps against Chicago, and Isaiah Davis is the third back. The 10/19 wire report has Hall out. Coach Aaron Glenn has called him week-to-week. I found no report with a return date or practice status after that.
Hall got a franchise tag or big contract (sources conflict on which), averaged over 20 touches per game before the injury, and caught all five of his targets in Week 2. The offense was built around him, and he is the better receiver of the two backs. Once healthy, the optimists expect the 20-touch workload to return.
Allen has looked good as the lead back, and SI and Yahoo both suggest the Jets' trust in him could carry over after Hall returns. Hall's 3.2 yards per carry was weak before he got hurt, and his snap share was never dominant. Quad injuries can linger, and he has had no practice time at all.
